Statement of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
As an abolitionist-oriented business, Tacocat Wellness is committed to fostering a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We recognize that achieving true justice and liberation requires dismantling systems of oppression, including—but not limited to—racism, sexism, ableism, and all other forms of discrimination. Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is grounded in the belief that all individuals, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or any other characteristic, deserve equal rights, opportunities, and respect.
Diversity: We celebrate and embrace the diversity of our employees, clients, and communities. We believe a diverse workforce enriches our perspectives, fuels innovation, and leads to better decision-making. We seek to create an environment that welcomes and values individuals from all backgrounds, experiences, and identities. We are committed to removing barriers and biases that limit underrepresented groups' opportunities.
Equity: We are dedicated to promoting equity throughout our business practices. We strive to create a workplace that ensures fairness, justice, and equal access to opportunities for advancement and success. We acknowledge that historic and systemic inequities exist and are committed to addressing them by implementing inclusive policies and practices. We work to actively listen to and amplify the voices of marginalized communities, working towards the redistribution of power and resources.
Inclusion: We aim to foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. We actively challenge and reject any form of discrimination, harassment, or prejudice. We encourage open dialogue, respectful engagement, and the sharing of diverse perspectives. We are committed to providing resources, training, and support to our employees to cultivate an inclusive workplace culture. We recognize that inclusion is an ongoing journey and are dedicated to continuously learning, growing, and evolving as an organization.
Further, we acknowledge that all people and organizations can be problematic. For this reason, we refute “cancel culture” and instead support the unlearning and reorienting process that enables folks to learn from and repair the harm they may have caused. We encourage an open dialogue around conflicting views, beliefs, and frameworks for engagement (i.e., social structures).
As an abolitionist-oriented business, we understand that the struggle for justice extends beyond our immediate sphere. We support and collaborate with community organizations and initiatives working to abolish oppressive systems, such as the prison-industrial complex and other forms of state violence. We strive to make a positive impact by advocating for social and systemic change.
We have chosen to divest from licensure, in part to support our abolitionist views as they relate to engaging systems that disproportionately harm folks in marginalized identities, such as child protective services and law enforcement.
We are committed to building a more just and equitable society by embracing diversity, promoting equity, and fostering inclusion. Our collective efforts can create a world where everyone has equal opportunities to thrive, regardless of background or identity. We invite our employees, clients, and partners to join us on this journey toward liberation and justice.
